How we use AI
Last updated October 25, 2026
What the AI does
- Reads recipes. When you save a reel, a video, a web page, pasted text or a photo of a cookbook page, an AI model reads it (and the video's spoken words and on-screen text) and writes it out as a clean recipe.
- Finds the written recipe. When a video says "link in bio" or "comment for the recipe", the AI may search the web for the creator's own recipe page.
- Reads receipts you photograph, to stock your pantry and add up your food spending.
- Writes polished cook plans when you ask for one in Cook mode.
- Checks photos you share with friends or everyone, before anyone else sees them, to make sure they show only the meal. Photos you keep for yourself aren't checked.
- Checks tips, display names and @handles, before anyone else sees them, for things like hate, threats, drug deals, ads and people's private details. Blunt opinions about the food are fine. Your own notes on a recipe aren't checked.
- Made our example pictures. The photos of the sample recipes and the website's demo dishes, and the step photos in the technique guides, were made by an AI image model (Google's Gemini) from each recipe or step. They weren't photographed.
What doesn't use AI
Most of Pantry to Pan is ordinary app logic that works the same every time: Cook mode, timers, the meal planner, "What can I make tonight?", the shopping list, the pantry and barcode scanning, swaps, technique guides, big-meal timing, and doneness temperatures.
It can make mistakes
AI can misread an amount, miss a step or guess wrong. When a source leaves something out (a bake time, an oven temperature), Pantry to Pan fills in an estimate and marks it (est.). Please:
- Check amounts, times and temperatures against the original before you cook, especially for baking.
- Check ingredients yourself for allergies and dietary needs. Pantry to Pan doesn't give medical or nutrition advice.
- Cook meat, poultry, fish and eggs to safe temperatures. Use a thermometer.
You can edit any recipe, and Send feedback, in the app's menu, tells us when something came out wrong.
Who processes your information
| Provider | What for | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic (Claude) | Reading recipes, receipts and photos; writing polished cook plans | The text, transcript and images needed for that one task |
| Apify | Fetching public Instagram posts you share into Pantry to Pan | The post's link |
We send only what a task needs, never your whole account. Under Anthropic's terms for businesses using its API, it doesn't train its models on what we send. Speech in videos is turned into text on our own server. More detail is in the privacy policy.
Creators
Every recipe keeps a link back to where it came from. Pantry to Pan is for your own cooking; please don't use it to republish other people's work. Creators can reach us through Support.
