How to save recipes from Instagram reels
Instagram's Save button keeps the reel. It doesn't write the recipe down, and the amounts are often only said out loud. Here's Instagram's own way, and how to keep the recipe itself.

Instagram's own way
- A post: tap Save below it, in your feed or on the creator's profile.
- A reel: tap Options (the three dots), then Save.
- To find it again: your profile, then the menu, then Saved. Tap and hold Save to put a post straight into a collection, like “Dinners”.
Instagram says “Only you can see the posts you've saved,” and the creator can't tell you saved it.
What it doesn't do
- It saves the reel, not the recipe: to cook it you scrub back through the video for each amount.
- If the creator deletes it, it's gone: Instagram says a deleted post “will no longer be visible to anyone on Instagram.”
- Saved reels don't make a shopping list or a plan for the week.
Save the recipe itself, with Pantry to Pan
- Android: on the reel or post, tap Share and pick Pantry to Pan.
- iPhone: tap Share → Copy link, open Pantry to Pan, tap +, then Paste the link I copied. Or add a Send to Pantry to Pan button to the Share menu once, from pantrytopan.com/shortcut.
Pantry to Pan watches and listens to the video, reads the caption, and finds the creator's written recipe when they have one. It turns all of that into one recipe with amounts, times and temperatures, and keeps the creator's name and a link back to their reel or post.
Instagram save or Pantry to Pan?
| Instagram save | Pantry to Pan | |
|---|---|---|
| Where the recipe lives | Inside the reel or post | Written out in your recipe box, with amounts |
| If the creator deletes it | Gone | Your saved copy stays, with their name on it |
| Shopping list and meal plan | No | Yes: plan the week, one list for the store |
| Cooking | Pause and rewind | Step by step, with timers |
| Price | Free | Free plan (10 imports a month); Plus $4.99 a month |
Many people do both: save it in Instagram to find the video again, and in Pantry to Pan to cook from.
Common questions
Is saving a post on Instagram private?
Yes. Instagram says only you can see the posts you've saved, and the creator can't tell you saved it. Collaborative collections are the exception: everyone in one sees its posts.
What happens to my saved reel if the creator deletes it?
Instagram says a post deleted by its creator is no longer visible to anyone on Instagram. A recipe you've saved into Pantry to Pan stays in your recipe box, with the creator's name on it.
What if the caption says “link in bio” or “comment for the recipe”?
Pantry to Pan looks for the creator's own written recipe when they have one, and puts what it finds together with what's said in the video.
Is Pantry to Pan free?
There's a free plan with 10 recipe imports a month. Plus ($4.99 a month) and Pro ($9.99 a month) add more imports and the pantry, and start with a 14-day free trial.
